The education program for future teachers will be reformed. Today the department of education appointed a group led by former principal at Umeå University, Sigbrit Franke, which will work for one year to come up with new ideas to improve the education.

One of the most impotent issues in the directive to the committee is how to increase the subject specific knowledge among teachers.

The situation in the schools was one major issue in last year’s election. The centre-right coalition that took office accused the previous Social democratic government for failing to create an atmosphere of knowledge and discipline. The current government has bee accused by the opposition for sorting pupils out to early with marks that puts a stamp “Failed” on pupils with low performance.
