There is a baby boom in Stockholm. 950 more children have arrived to the world in the capital this year compared with the same period last year. And yet, there were more deliveries than normal last year as well.
The delivery wards have however planned for the summer better this year. Last summer people were urged to go to other districts to give birth, the clinics in Stockholm were full. Some people obeyed to the advice and got parts of the expenses covered by the county. This year they have made sure there is always at least one experienced midwife in service at each clinic.
During the first five month this year 12 300 new babies were born in Stockholm county, which is more than ever. But there is more to come
–We are in the beginning of a big baby boom. The number of new born children increases every year, says Nicole Silverstolpe, head midwife at Danderyds delivery ward to Dagens Nyheter.
