Pre-schools will be built on water

Local News | 2008-10-10

The baby boom during recent years creates difficulties in finding appropriate kinder garten and pre-school premises for all the new children. Now the city wants to build on the water.

It is extremelly difficult to find a piece of land to build anything in Stockholm and there are not many empty, available premises. But there is a lot of water. So in Fredhäll (see map) and Danderyd (see map), the local authorities have decided to build pre schools (for children up to seven years old) on boats. The idea is criticised for putting the children in danger.

Stefan Schartner, consultant at one of the companies that is planning the construction says to Dagens Nyheter that there are many playgrounds and pre-schools located at dangerous areas, steep hills or heavily traffic and that they would make sure the security is sufficiant according to laws and regulations.
