With final results from 98% of the election districts it stands more than clear that the Pirate Party has won a seat in the EU Parliament. Other parties who have gained much voter support are the Greens and the Liberals. The largest losers in this election are the Left Party and the eurosceptic June List.

With 7.1% of the votes the Pirate Party gains their first parliamentary seat. Internet politics has now entered the European arena.

The Green Party almost doubled to 10.8% of the votes and now will have two seats instead of one. Another winner in tonight’s election is the Liberal Peoples Party who gain a third seat with their 13.6%.

The June List has this time been wiped out and loose all their three seats since they only reached 3.6%. Another party who saw some setbacks is the Left Party who lost more than half their voter support and ended with 5.6% and lost one of their two seats.

The two major parties, the Moderates and the Social Democrats, seem to get almost unchanged results, compared to the last election to the EU Parliament. The Moderate Party received 18.8% and keeps their four seats. The Social Democratic Party got 24.6% and hang on to five seats.

Interesting article. One thing I noticed was the common environmental platforms and the EU issue. In the States, neither party really shares a thing, except of course a shared contempt for each other.

Owen; In Europe the term "liberal" is more right, or at least center, than left. The Social Democrats are not right leaning, they are left, or maybe center-left. You can read more about the parties in our election guide http://www.stockholmnews.com/more.aspx?NID=3322

Interesting party breakdown from what I´m used to seeing in the States. What is the difference from your Left and Liberal parties? Also, I´m guessing the C.Dem and Social Dem are right leaning? Here it´s left, right, and you have the Green and smaller parties that don´t figure into the mix.
