Controversial Muslim takes back his candidacy to the Riksdag

Politics | 2009-11-08 | 14 comments
The chairman of the Muslim Association of Sweden,Mahmoud Aldebe, steps back from his planned candidacy to the Swedish Parliament in 2010. The reason is according to Aldebe that there are people with islamophobia within his party, the Centre party (green-liberal).

When it became known that Mr. Aldebe would run for a seat in the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) for the Centre Party, it aroused strong emotions.

Mr. Aldebe is a controversial person. As chairman for the Muslim Association of Sweden, he sent a letter to all political parties five months before the elections 2006. In this letter, he demanded that the Muslims in Sweden should live under Islamic law when it comes to marriage, divorce and the bringing up of children. His letter met a wave of protests - not least from Muslims.

- He gives us Muslims a bad reputation, said Bassem Nasr , chairman of the Centre party in Malmö according to the blog ´Politisk Inkorrekt´.

- The views he represents in his letter reflects an extremism and secterism that we have never seen before, said Fredrik Federley, MP for the Centre party according to the same blog.

Several other politicians from the Centre Party openly criticized Mr. Aldebe when his candidacy for 2010 became known.

The chairman for the youth section of the Centre party, Magnus Andersson wrote for example in his blog that it is obvious that Aldebe "has not understood that religion and politics are two different things".

Mr. Aldebe defends himself that he has been misunderstood and that he has taken back the demands that he put forward in his letter 2006. He says now to TT that there are islamophobic persons in the party and that the same goes for other established parties in Sweden and therefore, he will never feel welcome.

We are told that there is a difference between extremist Islam and peaceloving normal Islam. Judging by their behavior, Muslims are anti-West, anti-Democracy, anti-Christian, anti-Jewish, anti-Buddhist, and anti-Hindu. I am Mabrouk, I am a Muslim living in the Uk and never had the pleasure of visiting Sweden. Think as you please, but remember one one thing, the so called muslim extremists are a tiny minority, and that the vast majority of Muslims are moderate tolerant people, and by the way Sweden and it´s people are respected and admired by most people around the Islamic world. Salaam[peace] to all beautiful and tolerant Swedes. Kind regards, Mabrouk.

@Alon You are just as bad as extremist muslims. When you claim that Israel is on Holy Land and it is okay for Israel to continue building settlements (which takes more and more valuable land from Palestinians). Also i don´t think any (excluding delusional extremists like you) muslim thinks of Sweden as something they need to conquer (unlike Jews, who did (or were led to do) exactly this to create Israel). Only major difference is that Muslims did not have a say when Jews migrated.

Annika, I agree with most of your comment, except for the part that reads.."The West has not been in a war to defend itself from Islam since 1683 when the Muslims were defeated at the Gates of Vienna", that is what the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are all about; though I agree with that part of your comment if by "the west" you mean Europe, which unfortunately is asleep and/or aiding and abetting Islamism.

Islam is incompatible with the norm and values of the liberal democracy and leave out the theory part. The limitation and restrains that this religion put on freethinkers and seekers of freedom of expression to prove that liberation or moderation in Islam is nothing but a utopia.

Alon: Sharia Law is incompatible with what I perceive as a real democratic or republican form of government.Recently, a German Judge was removed from a case because she invoked the Sharia in her argumentation in a divorce case. She turned down the request by a Moroccan-born woman for immediate divorce on the grounds of physical abuse by her husband. She argued that the woman should have expected this treatment when she got married according to the Sharia.

Western nations - needs to know down to the marrow of their bones is that Islam IS at war against the West, against non-Muslims anywhere, wherever they may be, and Islam is on the march to defeat and dominate all non-Muslim nations.

And he considers running for a seat in the Riksdag?. This is exactly the danger with his kind of mentality, which is also shared by many muslims; just look at England which has already allowed Sharia law for muslims after years of pressure from their groups and their ever increasing poplulation numbers.
