More young people use cannabis

National News | 2009-11-09 | 2 comments
More and more young people in Sweden use cannabis. For many years the trend was that fewer used the drug but since 2007 the trend has shifted.

In Stockholm, twenty-five percent of the high school students have tried some kind of illegal drugs, most of them cannabis.

-We are worried about the increase. I don’t think young people understand how cannabis affects the brain and how they risk their intellectual capacity. Nobody want to get stupid, says Nils Stenström at the National Institution for Public Health to Svenska Dagbladet.

The American Medical Association just reversed 72 years of policy and admitted that cannabis has beneficial properties! Unlike alcohol and tobacco it cannot kill you. Why the fuss?

Interesting that use rates have dropped in Holland where the laws are less punative. Also, use in itself might not be problematic. Cannabis does not make people stupid - ignorant and decpetive comments like that do not demonstrate respect for young people.
