George Clooney as Blomkvist?

According to the entertainment site Celebuzz, George Clooney might get the role as the main character Mikael Blomkvist in the upcoming American version of The Millenium movies.

The Millenium movies are based on the book triology with the same name by the late Swedish author Stieg Larsson.

The second main character in the movie, the young excentric Lisbeth Salander will according to Celebuzz be portrayed by the Twilight star Kristen Stewart. Considering the half-dark role she has in Twilight and New Moon, she seems to be up to this kind of role. But if Stewart intends to play Salander, she must toughen up a bit.

Stieg Larsson´s book triology Millenium broke through internationally in 2008 when it sold second best in the whole world. The three books have now become movies in Sweden and they have become quite popular despite the classical difficulty of making a successful movie on a very successful book.

In the Swedish movies (see above picture), MIkael Blomkvist is played by the well known Swedish actor Mikael Nykvist. It is a bit funny. When I read Stig Larsson´s books three years before the movie, I always had Mikael Nykvist in front of me, as if he was the natural acter to portray this role.

The Lisbeth Salander role in the Swedish movies has been portrayed masterfully by the Swedish actress Noomi Rapace.

Whether Clooney and Stewart will get these roles and whether they will have the same chemistry as Nykvist and Rapace had remains to be seen.

I have read all 3 books, and watched all 3 movies translated in Spanish. Why can´t Hollywood just translate these superb movies into English, and forget about making a new American movie that will not do justice to this Trilogy or to the author Stieg Larson. Highly recommend watching the original movies even if they are in sweedish but with subtitles. Hollywood do not reinvent the wheels with American actors and base it in the USA. I have seen all three movies, and I am Swedish - living in Hollywood. If you remake it with American actors you would lose the Swedish genuineness. Put subtitles on the film and release it as is. I loved the books and loved the movies. Great adapation from book to film. Kept me on my toes. Let it be.

The third of the Larsson Millenium series just came out in Canada. Just saw the first Swedish movie of the trio. It was not as good as the book but better than any American version!Subtitles add to its validity!

Americans cannot portray Swedes! Perhaps Hollywood should just back off they can never do justice to Stieg Larssons characters! I know, I have lived in Sweden.

Oh dear! Hollywood will ruin this. The Swedish film was absolutely excellent and a faithful adaptation of the book. We can´t wait to see the next two films in the UK and find that viewing in Swedish with English subtitles just adds to the atmosphere. Having read the first two books I cannot imagine anybody portraying Lisbeth as skillfully as Noomi Rapace, and Clooney is too smooth looking for Blomquist. The producers should keep all the Swedish cast and use an English translation script.

OMG!! Not that Stewart girl, for God´s sake!! It´s kinda joke, isn´t it? Whoever have read Millennium trilogy could never, EVER think of her to play Lisbeth...I just can´t believe it. But I suppose it´s Hollywood we´re talking about...what can we expect??

I have just finished reading Stieg Larsson´s first book and I´m enthralled. I admire tha Scandinavian culture and I´m a fan of their films. The only blot was the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama who certainly has done nothing to deserve it. I´m hoping to soon see the Swedish version of Stieg´s books as films with English subtitles but in the Swedish version, not Hollywood´s version!

kristin stewart would completely ruin it..its going to be nigh impossible for the movies to be as good as the books or even come close to them but kristin stewart would be the ruination if the franchise.. i hope they get someone better... she has no depth.. same blank look on her face.. i hope they dont make em at all

I shudder to think what Hollywood will do to these amazing Millenium trilogy books. Just look at the American remake of Insomnia with Al Pacino--a great actor! But they destroyed a wonderful Scandinavian movie.
