In 2007, the bridge, built in the late 18th century, was in desperate need of repair. Parts of the construction were about to fall into lake Mälaren and water was leaking into the museum. Crown princess Victoria officially re-opened the bridge by putting the last stone at place.

The ´new´ museum
Many curious Stockholmers and tourists were there when the museum opened today. Stockholm News arrived just a few minutes after opening and the crowd made it difficult to get a good sight of all the new items and to read all the signs. But this will of course get better., it will not be that many people every day.

The only remaining part of the old Stockholm city wall is going through the museum, at its original place. Photo: Stockholm News
The museum is mostly about the every day life in Stockholm during the Middle age, which in Sweden lasted from around the year 1100 to early 16th century. (In continental Europe it started already during the 6th century). For those who are more interested in kings, wars and politics there are other museums. (And there are many to choose from; Stockholm is the city with most number of museums in the world in proportion to the population. There are just over 100 of them)

The museum has free entrance, as do all museums that are owned by the city of Stockholm. Almost all information texts next to the items are available in full English translation.
More about Norrbro
An older version of Norrbro was from the 13th century and onwards, the most important passage from Old Stockholm to the city of Uppsala. Uppsala was a very important city both from a religious and academic point of view.
Today, Stockholm is spreading in all directions from the bridge and during recent years, many wires for gas, electricity, telephone etc from south to north Stockholm is passing by this bridge, something that made the reconstructions much more complicated.
Next summer, the bridge will be used during crown princess Victoria’s wedding with Mr Daniel Westling.
