“After careful consideration, Princess Madeleine and Jonas Bergström jointly decided to go separate ways,” the Royal Court writes on its website.
“Princess Madeleine and Jonas Bergström appeals to the media to show them respect and consideration for this decision. They need peace and quiet in this difficult situation. The extreme media coverage do not ease the situation for them," the Royal Court writes on its website and announced that no further statement will be given.
According to several Swedish media, the Princess took a flight from Arlanda Airport to New York at 12 o'clock on Saturday. During the last couple of weeks there has been heavy speculation that she and her fiancé had problems with their relationship. Earlier this week a woman spoke to Norwegian press and claimed that she had had an affair with Jonas Bergström.
The couple became engaged in August last year and planned to get married sometime in "late autumn" this year, or "winter 2011". But earlier this month, Queen Silvia announced that there would be no wedding this year.
The wedding between the Crown Princess Victoria and her fiancé Daniel Westling will be held on 19 June.
