An Ethiopian man with a permanent residence permit in Sweden has been arrested for terrorist crimes in Nigeria and been taken to a prison in New York. The man was born in 1970 and comes from the Stockholm. According to the New York Times is the man accused for helping to fund, and have received military training, by the Somali guerilla organization al-Shabab, who say they belong to al-Qaeda. (TT)

The Swedish Social Insurance Administration estimate that the agency last year made faulty payments of SEK 16.4 billion. In total, the Social Insurance Administration paid out SEK 470 billion in 2009, 3.65 per cent of that amount, 16.4 billion kronor, is deemed to have gone astray. Two-thirds of the faulty payments are so called sickness and activity compensation, sickness benefits and compensation for assistance. 45 per cent of the faulty payments are held to be due to fiddling, the rest is said to be because of unintentional errors and difficult assessments. The Russian President Medvedev blames Sweden for protecting Chechen terrorists. This in response to that Sweden's PM Reinfeldt raised the issue of human rights in Russia. Sweden has in recent years refused to extradite two Chechen men who are accused of terrorism by Russia. “I expect constructive cooperation with our Swedish colleagues on this matter”, the President said. Reinfeldt arrived today in Russia to discuss everything from bureaucratic reforms to space research. (SVT)

The Stockholm Police has busted a drug ring who has cultivated cannabis on a large scale. In raids a month ago, plantations where found at three locations in southern Stockholm. A total of ten kilograms of cannabis in dried state was seized, which would bring in around SEK one million on the street, daily Svenska Dagbladet writes. Three ringleaders were arrested. One of them owns a record label. At a hidden room in his recording studio, the police found four tents where cultivation of cannabis was taking place. The seizure is one of the largest when it comes to Swedish-made cannabis.

Ice-hockey: Stockholm team Djurgården met Linköping today at their home arena "Hovet" in south Stockholm. Linköping is second and Djurgården is third in the Swedish top icehockey league Elitserien. Djurgården won the match with 3-2 and showed that they want the best place as possible before play-off starts.

A 62 year old man from China was today sentenced to one and a half years prison for illegal intelligence activity. The man has between 2008 and 2009 through infiltration collected information about the exile Uyghurs in Sweden. He has for example mapped their journeys, health and their political activities. Thereafter he passed the information to a Chinese diplomat and a Chinese intelligence officer who claimed to be a journalist. (DN)

At 3.20 pm today a man was hit in the head by falling icicle (a spike-shaped piece of ice) which fell from a building in central Stockholm when snow was removed from its roof. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. Just one hour after, a women was hit in the head by a icicle in the eastern part of central Stockholm. The authorities warn for falling icicles from buildings now. (SvD)

Today on the International Women's Day, Ban Ki-Moon appointed the Swedish police officer Ann-Marie Orler to the top executive post for UN's police force. She will be responsible for around 13 000 police officers all around the world who are abroad on UN-missions. Ann-Marie Orler has since 2008 been adviser within the UN and has worked with the recruitment of female police officers to UN-missions. (SR)

The police had to interrupt a party with 500 youngsters in Skutskär north of Uppsala last night. There were 500 people in a premise good for 300. The police suspect a sixteen year old boy for stabbing another guest with a knife. After the same party, one nineteen year old man froze to death.

One man has been arrested after holding three persons as hostages in the city of Borlänge this morning. The man did not have any weapon and no one was injured. The reason for the incident is not known. (DN)

AIK took home the victory in the Super Cup final against IFK Göteborg with 1-0 after a goal by Flavio in the 23rd minute. AIK won the game fair before a sparse crowd of only 2,537 spectators, but the victory was far from secure. The Stockholm team AIK was best in the first half while IFK from Gothenburg gained more strength in the second half, and in the final minutes IFK Göteborg had a number of really hot goal chances. Every tenth prison inmate in Sweden leaves no urine sample to show whether they are intoxicated or not. This according to statistics reported by public broadcaster SVT. Fear to be beaten-up by other inmates is one of the causes. “Every tenth of the 1,000 people who refuses do this because of harassments," says Prison Service's security chief Christer Isaksson. Those who does not leave a sample get no permissions, but leaving urine samples breaks the "unwritten rules" among inmates and you must then "be prepared for the consequences".

After over 12 hours of waiting, frozen at sea north of Stockholm, the ship Amorella on Friday morning arrived in Stockholm. Ice conditions in the northern Stockholm archipelago is still difficult. Many ships are stuck in the ice and waiting for help from ice breakers.

The Canadian actor Michael J. Fox has been appointed honorary doctor of medicine at the Karolinska Institute (KI) in Stockholm. He received the honour for his efforts as opinion maker and founders of a foundation for research on Parkinson disease. Fox has also been a strong advocate of freedom of research and been a driving force in the applied therapeutic strategies for embryonic stem cell research in U.S. laboratories, KI writes in a press release.

A seventy year old woman was robbed in Haninge south of Stockholm tonight. A group of robbers went into her apartment, tied her and searched her apartment for valuable items which they stole. The police are searching for the perpetrators. (Sr)

A thirty year old man has been convicted to eighteen years in prison for arranging the fire at a hotel in Eskilstuna in February 2009. There were 113 guests at the hotel but no one was injured. (SvD)
