Opposition makes agreement on energy policy

Politics | 2009-03-22

The three opposition parties have presented their energy program. No new nuclear power plants will be built and every four years they want to evaluate if any of the existing ones can be closed.

The leaders for the Social Democrats, the Left Party and the Greens presented their new energy program in an article in Dagens Nyheter today. They write that the plants will be closed down when it is possible to replace it with renewable energy sources. This is a new approach for the Greens who previously wanted to close all plants quicker.

If the opposition wins the next election they will invite the center-right parties to talks in order to make an agreement that will last even if the political power shifts. The previous talks did however not lead to an agreement. The center-right parties made an historical compromise in February.
