Minister wants the state to finance education of imams.

Sweden may start an education of imams according to minister for Higher Education and Research Lars Leijonborg writes Svenska dagbladet (Svd).

The government already finances the education of priests at universities; Leijonborg says that it is a matter of fairness that other religious groups also get their spiritual leaders educated on expense of the common sector.

It is not necessary however that it is in the form of university programs he says, it might be other forms of education. One reason is to avoid radicalisation of Islam in Sweden.

-It is said that Saudi Arabian radical Muslims offer to provide imams for free and lack of money leave moderate Muslims who want to start a mosque with no other option says Leijonborg according to Svd.

Integration is another reason, which is pointed out by Leiojonborg as well as Social democratic Member of Parliament Luciano Astudillio.

-Not until Islam is a natural part of Swedish society is it possible to break the alienation and isolation many Swedish Muslims experience he says to Svd.
