Disturbance outside mosque

When the police tried to block an evicted mosque in the city of Malmö stones and fireworks was thrown by an angry mob that also started fires and smashed windows. Twenty people were taken care of and one was arrested by the police.

The background is that the police last Monday emptied a basement locale, used as a mosque in Rosengård city district in Malmö, before it became evicted. The locale has since then been occupied by some people and there has also been demonstrations.

When the police last night once again tried to drive people out and block the area commotion started.

– Our mission during the night was to keep the disturbance of order and thrashing on a low level as possible, says Tommy Sverngard of the local police to news agency TT.

Despite a relatively large number of fires together with thrown stones and fireworks has no personal injuries been reported.

On the local police station windows was smashed and a number of fires were sparked in garbage cans and containers Between 50 and 100 youths throw stones on the police and security guards. According to the police did several of them belong to a left wing extremist organization.

The disturbance was stopped by the police around three o’clock in the morning.
