The daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter writes that the man wrote on the site Flashback that he wants to spend his life at an institution of some kind and that he therefore was planning to kill a small child. He wrote that he has been been a patient at a psychiatric department in the past. He also claimed that he had been in contact with psychiatrists and that he has tried to tell doctors and the police about his plans without being taken seriously. He wrote that he wants help and wanted to know if just planning the deed would be enough to put him in an institution.
The police say they have no doubt about the man’s intentions and abilities to actually do what he said. Two new knives and a syringe with concentrated nicotine, strong enough to kill a small child, were found in his apartment. Interrogations with the man have also confirmed that his plans were real.
Flashback is an open online forum for discussions about basically anything and the users are anonymous. Some of the other users tried however to figure out who he was. Stephan Söderholm at the police in Lund said to Dagens Nyheter:
"One person managed to get in contact with him and make him reveal his name and other pieces of information. This information was then handed over to the police. That was very well done, this person has probably prevented a very serious crime"
